Rotting animals also attract the attention of mice, flies, vultures and maggots. Read below to know what you should do as soon as you smell something rotting.

Identify the Animal
First, you have to identify the place where the smell is coming from, so that you can locate the dead Illinois animal. Then you must identify the rotting animal. If it is big, you might need help removing and burying it. Even if it's smaller in size, you may not want to go near it without wearing masks and gloves. Dead animals that have started rotting are hazardous to health. They might carry a great number of pathogens. A lot of animals might carry diseases, even their excretions, that is urine and feces may spread diseases. Especially if the animal seems to have been wild or stray, there is more possibility of it being carrier of bacteria and virus which can be hazardous for the environment around your house, your pets and yourself. The flies, maggots etc around the body only spread more pathogens in the air. It is extremely dangerous to breathe in such polluted air.

How to Remove the Body
After identifying the body and locating it, the next problem is how to remove the body. For smaller animals, you can make do with a shovel with which you carry the rotting animal and then bury it. You may even carry dead mice, small cats wearing protection gloves. But it all depends on the nature of its rotting. If the situation is too bad and there's fluid and other disgusting stuff around, you may need more protection. Use gloves, gas mask, goggles etc. so that it does not affect your health. After removing the carcass, put it in a bag to take it away, although it is best if you bury it somewhere. You may use the eco-friendly cleaners that are available in the market to clean up the space so that the flies and maggots are repelled and the stinking smell goes away. However, for many people, the sight of a dead Waukegan animal under their house might be repulsive. In that case, you may call in the animal control to help you out with the clean up. There are many private organisations that also help out with moving away dead animals and clean the place.
